Area Police
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior representative said the incident left him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
